Having some time away in San Diego was good and very needed. A break from the normal routine is always refreshing even when its not what you thought it would be.
The weather here in Minnesota was actually better than that in California, believe it or not! I was disappointed each day to see the forecast and know I would be warmer and dryer in my own home state. The irony is somewhat hilarious.
I read some good books including The Future and Its Enemies by Virginia Postrel. Even though she gets a little long in describing the dynamist's viewpoint as opposed to that of the technocrats or reactionaries, it is still worth a read (if you can stand a bright orange and black book jacket on your coffee table). The concepts are rich and powerful reminding me of the the distinctions between an organizational vs. organic understanding of the church. The book had the same weight as Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell of a few years back with broad applications to my future thinking of how life is lived. More later...
The best eating of the week happened at 222 a delicious breakfast eatery with wonderful service and classic urban frivolity. The potato pancakes and their infamous waffles were "to die for." If I lived in San Diego, I would be a frequent visitor of this light hearted cafe with loads of personality.
We had time to walk on the beach and peruse the lovely seaside town of La Jolla with all its lavish boutiques. Coronado Island was a quick jaunt across the harbor bridge from where we stayed in downtown San Diego. It will always be remembered as the place where we tried to drive into the naval base and received a quick and direct escort out! Oops!
It was good to be away but its even better to be at home again.
Perfect discussion for my "book club" (slash) political group (slash) sister-in-law night out . . . already hoping to create a "tipping point" in our great big beautiful family! Thanks!
