Disaster photos provoke a sense of helplessness. The bigness of a catastrophe overwhelms the senses, goes beyond words to capture its impact, its depth of torment. How can this be?
The world is shaking...so many cry out, so many are dead. Our vulnerability is exposed. The fragility of life is experienced. Even the strong appear weak.
We join with the words of the Psalmist, praying together:
O LORD, you are our rock of safety.
Please help us; don't refuse to answer.
For if you are silent,
We might as well give up and die.
Listen to our prayer for mercy
as we cry out to you for help,
as we lift our hands toward your holy sanctuary. (Psalm 28)
Lord, come and save your people.
May God give to us compassionate hearts and willingness to follow His promptings.

Amen and Amen. Lord have mercy. Lord hear our prayer.
